Rangers Moving On
After an incredible season, the Rangers are moving on in the playoffs to face the Washington Capitals. The Senators put up quite a fight in the first round giving the Rangers all they could handle by taking the series to game seven. Outstanding goaltending kept the game close, and it was decided by just one goal.
The Rangers proved that they can overcome adversity in a back and forth series against the Ottawa Senators. After trading wins in the first three games, the Senators won two in a row, and had New York on the brink of elimination playing in Ottawa. Three-second period goals proved too much for the Sens, bringing the series back to New York for the most exciting scenario in sports, game seven.
The tension and excitement around Madison Square Garden could be felt throughout all of Manhattan as players took the ice in the end-all decisive game. Everyone was hoping for an aggressive struggle, and they got just that. There were only six penalties in the game, but it was clearly a physical battle.
Despite many scoring opportunities in the first period, the goaltending was strong, and both teams were shutout. In the second, the Rangers managed to score twice, before the Sens came back with one of their own. Following the pattern of outstanding netminding, the third period was also scoreless, and Lundqvist was award as the first-star of the game saving 26 out of 27 shots.
The Rangers are now looking forward to playing the Capitals in another series where they will try to take advantage of home ice. If they can shut down Alex Ovechkin like the Bruins did in the first round, this could be a really fun series for the Rangers, and their fans.
