The Gennaro Festival
The San Gennaro festival is New York City's longest running and largest attended annual festival. Consider adding the event to your next New York vacation itinerary to ensure a memorable experience full of religion and history.
The San Gennaro Festival is presented annually by Figli di San Gennaro Inc, a non-profit community organization. The organization is dedicated to keeping alive the spirit and faith of the early Italian immigrants alive. The San Gennaro Festival includes the San Gennaro Feast, which is expected to attract over one million people to New York. The streets of the lower Manhattan neighborhood Little Italy are completely filled during the nearly two weeklong celebration.
The annual celebration is held in honor of San Gennaro (the Patron Saint of Naples) and includes an 11-day event. Religious processions, colorful parades, free daily musical entertainment, various ethnic food delicacies and much more are offered during the San Gennaro Festival.
This year the annual event is set to hold its 85th celebration during September 15-25. The official Saint Day of the Gennaro Festival is going to be the central focus of the event and will be held on September 19th.
A celebratory Mass will be held on that day in the Most Precious Blood Church and will be followed immediately by a religious procession through the streets of Little Italy. The Gennaro Festival is an extremely unique New York event.
